The Great Mazurian Lakes' Route

The pension Sarmacja is situated on the Great Mazurian Lakes' Route. A vast area full of lakes connected by canals is within our reach. Our boat can sail along the rout for ever.

We can spend at least one week taking only the main route from south to north (Pisz - Węgorzewo). It's 87 km of sailing.

Our pension is situated at Lake Ryńskie which is 7 km long, 47 m deep in some parts. Its area - 1130 ha. This lake is the furthest protruding part of the great post- glacial gully starting from Ruciane through Bełdany, Lake Mikołajskie and Tałty.

It was exactly here from Węgorzewo to Ryn, where in 1379 Winrych von Kniprode sailed for the first time on a boat built in Elbląg for this special purpose. It was from Ryn that the first steam ship on Mazurian Lakes - Mazovia took its maiden voyage.
